Originally founded in 1935 as a team for electronics manufacturer Hitachi, it is the second-oldest team at the top level in Japan. However, it only began to strengthen significantly in the 1990s.

Though a regular in the playoffs, the club has yet to secure a league title. They have, however, won the Emperor's Cup twice, in 2015 and 2020.

Notable Japanese (Asian) Players to watch

Kouei Omori(6-4, F, U18 Shibuya)

With a unique background, he rose through the club's youth ranks from U15 and U18, bypassing the usual path of participating in high school club activities, BUKATSU, which is the most common route in Japan. It's also interesting that he attended one of the country's top academic schools.

Notable Foreign (Naturalized) Players to watch

Josh Hawkinson(6-10, F, Washington State)

A rapidly rising cornerstone of the Japanese national team, he joined Japan right after graduating from Washington State in 2017. While it's becoming harder for fresh rookies to make an impact in B1, he stood out with his natural shooting ability and strong rebounding skills, traits that had initially been underestimated.

He naturalized in 2023.

Reid Travis(6-8, F, Kentucky)

Travis, who made his mark at both Stanford and Kentucky, spent a season in Germany with Medi Bayreuth before joining Shimane with great anticipation in 2020. After a stint with Hokkaido, he joined Shibuya this season.

Head Coach: Luka Pavicevic

A renowned Montenegrin coach who led Tokyo to back-to-back championships.

It's no surprise that he has an impressive coaching record, but as a player, he also achieved three consecutive EuroLeague championships in 1989, 1990, and 1991 while with KK Split.
