Shinshu" is a colloquial term referring to Nagano Prefecture, located to the southeast of Toyama.
Nagano is a landlocked prefecture, not facing the sea. It is the fourth-largest in area due to its vast mountainous regions, including the Japanese Alps, but its population is not large.
